We did it! A Crown for Our Lady!

On Tuesday, March 4th, our parish received an exciting phone call from the Diocese of Camden. Fr. Jason Rocks shared the incredible news that the Holy Father has officially granted his apostolic approval for the canonical crowning of the historic statue of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. Additionally, he has recognized the longstanding tradition of the Mt. Carmel Procession of the Mount Carmel Society!
A canonical coronation is a formal act by the Pope, expressed through a papal bull, to crown a venerated image of Christ, the Blessed Virgin Mary, or St. Joseph. This act acknowledges the image's local and universal significance within the Catholic Church. This is a rare honor for the church and our diocese.
In the United States, only four Marian images have received this honor:- Our Lady of Prompt Succor: Crowned on November 10, 1895, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
- Our Lady of Mount Carmel: Crowned on July 10, 1904, in New York City, New York.
- Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception: Crowned on August 22, 2013, in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
- Our Lady of La Leche: Crowned on October 10, 2021, at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine in Florida.
And Our Lady of Mount Carmel Statue in Hammonton will be the fifth in the whole country!

Choir of the basilica
As part of the celebration of the 150th anniversary, we will have a very special concert featuring the Choir of the Basilica, the resident choir of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC.
